Cocobolo/Spruce Guitar No. 150

I've had this tonewood in stock for a number of years, and have been looking forward to trying it. Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a high density hardwood from Central America often cited as a good substitute for Brazilian rosewood. The sapwood stripe down the centre of the back always adds a bit to the aesthetics I think. Matching headplate with boxwood and ebony centre stripe. It was made as my exhibition guitar for this year, but in the end I didn't attend any events as an exhibitor!

The guitar design is my Hauser-inspired model, fan-braced with two low transverse braces either side of the bridge. The finish is French polish and the machine heads with ebony buttons and roller bearings are by Kris Barnett. The soundboard is European spruce with some nice hazelfichte (bearclaw). Cedrela (Spanish cedar) neck with carbon bar reinforcement, and an ebony fingerboard with a subtle radius. The guitar also features a V-joint and a 12-hole tie-block.
